FACILITIES

This page will be updated as the facilities we have available change and, hopefully, improve.  At the moment they are fairly basic as you can see.

Water and Electricity: The house has electricity and cold running water. There are two taps - one in the kitchen and one outside in the garden.  The  toilet is outside, as is the make-shift shower area. Water for washing is heated either on the 'petchka' (wood-stove), or on hot days we fill old plastic beer bottles and they warm in the sun.  Our plans for summer 2010 are to improve the washing facilities and to make compost toilets both inside and outside the house. Update: Toilet looks much nicer now there's somewhere to sit and it's had a lick of paint!

Communications: For our personal use we have a pay-as-you-go local mobile phone. We may look into getting a land-line in the future.  During summer 2010 we hope to arrange wifi internet connection. In the meantime there is an internet place in Popovo open several hours a day at reasonable cost. Update: Internet has now been made available in the local library - a five minute walk from our house and open each weekday most mornings and afternoons.

Guest Accommodation: We have two large, clean and bright rooms available for our guests - but there is very minimal furniture. Until we organize proper beds and other conveniences you might be more comfortable bringing your own camping mat or inflatable matress. Update: New beds arriving this summer - 2012!

Other Local Facilities:  In the village there are four mini-markets (which also double up as places to sit over a coffee or a beer), a hardware store, post office and pharmacy. In addition, a small market comes to the village once a week. There is also a flour mill (and probably quite a few other things which we have yet to discover).  There are several local mineral water springs scattered around the village, and even a warm mineral water swimming pool! Although owned privately it is often made available for general use for a small charge during the summer months.  Last but not least, some beautiful walking trails though meadows and woods start right on our doorstep.
